While the Parable of the Sower does serve to normalize the rejection of God's rule and reign, it also reveals something about the nature and character of God. As we explored earlier this week, while parables use everyday situations to provide a certain level of familiarity to the story, they also offer thoughts that challenge what is to be expected.
I used to think that the meaning of parables were fairly obvious, after all, aren't they just stories taken from everyday life and then linked up with some sort of spiritual application? What can be so difficult about that?
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
