Looks like the forums aren't getting used much so I thought I'd kick off a thread and see what happens. Music is always a good topic, so here we go.
I'm not as much into music as I'd like to be. I took 4 years of piano as a kid, and wishing now that I'd kept up with it. I've always been interested in learning the bass guitar, but can't seem to keep up with it.
Anyway, here's some of the bands I enjoy listening to:
Fireflight
Skillet
Kutless
Pillar
Red

Random
I, regularly, just listen to what ever thanks to online radio from places like pandora, ChristianRock.net, and other radio stations in iTunes.
But, there are some bands I do call up. One of my favorites is Project86.
I kinda like the randomness so I can hear things outside what I already know.
Project 86
I have a couple of their albums. Some of their music is pretty cool, but I have a hard time getting passed the screaming. Sometimes I don't mind so much, and others it just seems to grate on my ears.
But yeah, ChristianRock.net is where a heard a couple of the band I bought CDs from for the first time.
Christian vs. Secular Music
Outside of the more worship oriented stuff, I rarely listen to Christian music anymore. I think part of this is the curse of seminary and the fact that I can't listen to anything without being theologically critical (this also limits my song selection of the worship scene).
Of course, I say a curse, but it's also a blessing because, for me, having right theology isn't about being right, it's about pastoral care and the belief that bad theology is poison to the soul.
So, what do I do in the music world? Well, I'm primarily a rock/alt kind of guy so I listen to the main secular station here in Denver and try to hear the heart of the artist as portraying in the lyrics. In the end, I've found that music can be a great means to enter faith conversations.
Country Rules
I'm a country fan. What can I say. Not the pop country but the good stuff.
I'm there with ya on the theological point. I can listen to Christian music when the theology is decent or the vocals are so distorted I can't tell what they are saying so I'm just into the sound. If I can hear the theology is off from what I believe I just get annoyed.
country?
Why do I have this odd feeling that you brought up country, in part, because you know I have such great disdain for the genre?
Along those lines, this is hilarious: http://joeburnham.com/robbie_looks
Funny
I find that funny myself. I used to like country (because my wife does) but more recently not so much (ok, hardly at all). I think it was all part of a journey to find myself.
Manic Drive
I found out about this band today. I was wondering if anyone listens to them and/or has an opinion they'd like to share. They seem pretty decent to me and I'm thinking of going to pickup one of their CDs today.
